Northwestern University will be piloting a new “Library Help” link in Canvas. This link will bring students to a landing page with access to both subject guides and database lists, and in some cases, a research guide for the specific course.
Subject guides (a.k.a. LibGuides) are currently available on the library’s website, but with the new Canvas integration, students can go directly to resources associated with their courses.
The goal of the Canvas pilot is to provide students with timelier and easier access to relevant subject guides; however, individual instructors can also work with their subject specialist to create a custom course guide tailored to their specific class. Instructors can include reference resources and guides, as well recommended websites, citation resources, and primary source information. See an example of an individual course guide here.
As this pilot rolls out in Canvas, the library would appreciate any feedback on the tool. If you have any questions, comments, or technical difficulties using the tool, please contact email@example.com. The library’s subject specialists are also available to assist you by offering class instruction on library resources, as well as designing guides tailored to the content of your course.
If you have any questions or comments regarding the Canvas integration, please feel free to contact Faculty Support Services at firstname.lastname@example.org.
