Negotiating Classroom and Teaching Conflicts with Students, TAs, and Instructors

When you're teaching and TAing, conflicts can arise as individuals with diverse perspectives and backgrounds interact inside and outside of the classroom. From "hot moments" in classroom discussion to student grade complaints and TA-instructor disagreements, personal identity and experiences can affect how students and teachers alike perceive conflict and interventions. This workshop will give graduate students and postdocs a chance to grapple with real-life conflict scenarios from Northwestern grad students; to develop personalized strategies for engaging conflict as TAs and lead instructors; and to empower them to transform conflicts into teaching moments for students, colleagues, and themselves.
