Faculty Workshop: Assessing Program-Level Learning Objectives: How Much Have Students in Your Program Learned?

Are students in your program, department, or unit walking out the door with the knowledge and skills that are expected of them? Do you want to better gauge the quality of your students’ learning by the end of the program as well as what progress your students are making along the way? Do you want to use evidence to inform course proposals, program review, and other programmatic decisions?

During this workshop, you will learn how to:

-Ensure that program-level learning objectives encompass and guide all course-level learning objectives and other student learning opportunities (e.g., internships, practica, or research)

-Determine expectations for learning at different stages of the program’s curriculum

-Identify relevant assessment methods to gauge students’ achievement of program-level learning objectives at different milestones and stages

The intended audience for this workshop is chairs/program directors, those on curriculum committees, and anyone who wants to more deeply understand how to assess program learning objectives.

Note: this workshop is most useful if your program already has program learning objectives; register for the Developing Program-Level Learning Objectives workshop on October 16th to learn how to develop these).
