Social Science Data for Research

Social Science Data for Research

Northwestern University Libraries provides access to a variety of secondary research data resources in the social sciences, e.g. datasets created by researchers, government or nonprofit agencies, news organizations and others, which are available so that you can analyze them for your own research questions. This workshop will introduce the repositories, highlight their functions, and suggest strategies for locating research datasets. Subscription and open access resources will be discussed and may include: ICPSR, Roper Public Opinion Archive, Gallup Analytics, IPUMS, NHGIS, Social Explorer, data.census.gov, FRED/ALFRED, IndiaStat, China Data Online, etc. While quantitative data is more commonly available, qualitative data can also be discussed.

Methods of quantitative or qualitative analysis will not be addressed during this session.

Presenters: Kelsey Rydland, Data Services Librarian; Anne Zald, Government Information Librarian
