VR/AR Experiences in Education

TEACHxperts, a speaker series designed to highlight instructors who are using technology to enhance teaching and learning, is starting the academic year with a exciting talk about augmented and virtual reality in the classroom.  While you might think immediately of video games when conjuring an image of a VR headset, virtual and augmented reality are used in a variety of fields, like entertainment and arts, travel, sports, commerce and the health industry.

Ariel Rogers, an assistant professor in the Department of Radio/Television/Film, will discuss who she integrated AR and VR into her class.  Rebecca Poulson, an expert in AR/VR from the Knight Lab, partnered with Rogers to develop the range of activities and experiences for the students.  Learn about their journey and consider how you might integrate AR/VR into your class, no matter what the topic.

Attendees are welcome to bring their lunch to this brown bag session.  During this hour and a half session, we'll hear from our speakers, and at the end, attendees will have an opportunity to experience for themselves some of these exciting technologies, with equipment from the Knight lab and from Kellogg, as well as a small collection of inexpensive, cardboard headsets from Teaching & Learning Technologies that can be used with a smart phone.
