Analytics Leadership Seminars

Analytics Leadership Seminars are designed to expand expertise in the use of data to improve learning and teaching. ETLAN members will meet at least once per quarter, with the first meeting taking place on October 3, 2016. At these quarterly meetings, members will share their analytics interests, goals, and use of specific methods, resources, and data. Meetings will spawn and serve as a testing ground for new learning analytics projects as well as bring to light interesting developments in the field.

Speaker Series

In consultation with continuing and new members of ETLAN, the group will arrange for speakers on the topic of teaching and learning analytics. Speakers will be asked to address the group privately; if appropriate, they may give a separate talk for a more general audience. ETLAN members will have a chance to discuss speakers’ remarks during the seminars.

Dedicated Project Work

Faculty, staff, and graduate students are invited to propose teaching and learning analytics projects. These may focus on a single class, a sequence of classes, or on a program. For reference, projects from the 2015-2016 ETLAN cohort may be found here. Projects should be described in this form.

Each project will be fostered by a dedicated staff member from Northwestern IT’s Academic and Research Technology. The staff will provide guidance and help the ETLAN member explore the data available, in addition to providing programming expertise.

Completed projects may be featured on Northwestern’s Digital Learning website; newly developed tools may be incorporated into Canvas. Members with a project may be invited to present at the 2017 TEACHx at the end of the academic year.

Informal Drop-in Hours

ETLAN members and staff from Northwestern IT Academic & Research Technologies will host open, informal drop-in hours once a month. Open to all, the office hours will be a place to try out new project ideas, spark innovation, and think through presentations of teaching and learning analytics.
