Workshop Description:
Strengthen your instruction and prepare for your career by developing your teaching statement. In this workshop, you will learn about the characteristics of successful teaching statements, create and/or refine your draft to capture your qualifications and approach to teaching, and be able to tailor your statement to different career opportunities. This workshop uses key moments you have experienced as a learner or teacher, to help frame the value of teaching for you.
The workshop has 2 sessions (March 9 and March 30) of 90 minutes each. Before the first session is a short pre-session activity, and in between sessions, you will complete your teaching statement draft and engage in guided peer-feedback with two other participants. The second session will include critical reflection and steps toward securing others’ input to complete your teaching statement.
Workshop Facilitator:
The workshop will be lead by Professor Goldberg, the Director of the Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching, Assistant Provost for Learning and Teaching and Professor of Physics and Astronomy. He has more than two decades of experience in designing and implementing active learning workshops for graduate students and postdocs, and is co-author of two MOOCs developing learning and teaching skills for future faculty. Having recently arrived from Boston, he is excited to start working with the graduate student and postdoc communities at Northwestern.
