Faculty Workshop - Grouping Students in the Classroom: What Works?

Faculty Workshop - Grouping Students in the Classroom: What Works?Monday, November 14, 2016
11:00am – 12:30pm

Many faculty like the idea of using small-group work in the classroom, and group work has the potential to offer great benefit to students. But putting small groups into practice is tricky, and often doesn’t work out the way we’d hoped.  Faculty must make a number of decisions (How many per group? Who to place with whom? What kinds of tasks?) that can impact the quality of the student experience. In this workshop, we’ll look at some of the research on student grouping, explore pros and cons of various approaches, and help participants draft plans for using groups effectively in their classes.
